A journey to Rioja

Bodegas Muga

This summer, members of the Barrafina team travelled to the heart of Rioja to visit Bodegas Muga, one of Spain’s most celebrated family-run wineries and a long-standing producer featured on our wine list. Nestled in the historic town of Haro, the winery has been producing exceptional Rioja wines since 1932, combining generations of expertise with an unwavering commitment to traditional winemaking.

Hosted by members of the Muga family, we spent time exploring the vineyards, touring the cellars and learning about the craftsmanship behind every bottle. From the vineyards to the cooperage, where Muga continues to make its own oak barrels, every step of the process reflects a deep respect for Rioja’s winemaking heritage.

Of course, no visit would be complete without tasting the wines themselves. Alongside long lunches at the winery, we enjoyed an evening wandering the streets of Haro with tapas and perfectly chilled Rioja in hand, experiencing first-hand the culture and hospitality that make this region so special. It was an unforgettable opportunity to connect with the people, places and traditions behind some of the wines we proudly pour every day in our restaurants.
